Sarnia Striker Tori Johnston Commits to Lambton Women’s Soccer Program

SARNIA – Keeping it local to kick off the 2024 recruiting season for the Women’s Soccer Program.

Striker Tori Johnston has officially committed to Head Coach Kevin Simmonds and the Lambton Women’s Soccer Program for the 2024 season.

Johnston is the first commitment in the 2024 recruiting class for Simmonds and the rest of his coaching staff.

“I’m really excited to play for Lambton College,” said Johnston. “From knowing Kevin and having worked with him before, I’m excited to have him as my coach with the Lions.”

“Everything that I’ve seen online of the girls playing soccer at Lambton College, it has me excited to get going here.”

Johnston, a five-foot-two striker, comes to Lambton College from Northern Collegiate Institute & Vocational School in Sarnia. She will join a Lambton roster that featured eleven players from Sarnia last season, and a handful of others from the surrounding area.

Johnston comes equipped with a knack for putting the ball in the back of the net, which she has done many times with the Sarnia Girls program, but she also understands the importance of the team game.

“I really like using the team to move the ball up the field to generate chances,” added Johnston. “Even though I love to score and take the ball up, passing and teamwork is still a major aspect that we need in the game as a group.”

This summer, Johnston will suit up for the Sarnia Girls U18 Program.

While he hasn’t coached Tori on one of his teams, Simmonds is familiar with what she brings on the field. He has worked with her in various training sessions over the years, and he is looking forward to what Tori can bring to the Lambton program moving forward.

“We’re excited to have Tori joining the Women’s Soccer Program,” said Simmonds. “She is a natural goal scorer with a powerful shot and an eye for the goal.”

“She has a fluid motion to movement in the attacking third of the field. Her anticipation factor is a strength in her game and is compensated with accuracy in her shooting skills. Tori plays with passion and works hard to win the ball, while her deceptive moves make her difficult for opposing teams to defend.”

Academically, Johnston will be enrolled in the Pharmacy Technician Program at Lambton College.

The Lions are coming off a rebuilding year in 2023. The team had a total of fifteen first-year student-athletes on their roster. Now, with a year of collegiate experience on their resume, the Lions are looking to take the next step in 2024.

The addition of Johnston to the front line will add more offensive potential to the group going forward.

Welcome to The Den, Tori!
