Central Attacking Midfielder Sam Fletcher Commits to Lambton Women’s Soccer for 2024 Season

SARNIA – Another Crusader is on their way to Lambton College.

Sam Fletcher has officially announced her commitment to Head Coach Kevin Simmonds and the Lambton Women’s Soccer Program for the 2024 season, and beyond.

Fletcher is the third member of the 2024 recruiting class for Simmonds and the rest of his coaching staff. Come September, Fletcher will join the likes of Tori Johnston (Sarnia, Ont.) and Tahlia Kelch (Sarnia, Ont.) as a newcomer in a Lions uniform on the field.

“We are very excited to have Sam sign with the Lambton Women’s Soccer Team for the upcoming season,” said Simmonds. “She is an attacking midfielder that sees the whole field and will bring more balance to the Women’s Soccer Program.”

“Sam is a player with good skills and a strong soccer IQ.”

Fletcher, a five-foot-six central attacking midfielder (CAM), comes to Lambton College by way of Catholic Central High School (CCH) in London. Fletcher’s commitment to the Women’s Soccer Program marks the second consecutive year that a former Crusader will make the jump to post-secondary at Lambton College (Lauren Goldsack), and she’s the latest in a growing list of Lambton student-athletes to come from CCH.

Outside of high school, Fletcher suits up for the Byron Optimist Soccer Club.

“I was really looking forward to today and making my commitment official,” said Fletcher after putting pen to paper and signing with the Lambton Women’s Soccer Program. “I’m excited to get started at Lambton College with the new environment, both with the team and in my program.”

“My family and I are all really excited to be here.”

Academically, Fletcher will be enrolled in the Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training Program at Lambton College.

The Lions are coming off a rebuilding year in 2023. The team had a total of fifteen first-year student-athletes on their roster. Now, with a year of collegiate experience on their resume, the Lions are looking to take the next step in 2024 and use last year’s gained experience to their advantage.

The addition of Fletcher to the midfield rotation will undoubtedly help on both ends of the field, and she’s hoping that Lambton fans see that from her when she steps on the field for the first time when the 2024 season opens.

“I’m really good at facilitating the play and seeing the whole field,” added Fletcher. “I can move the ball throughout the field and anticipate plays.”

Welcome to The Den, Sam!
