SARNIA – The Sarnia FC recruiting pipeline strikes again for the Lions.
Midfielder Pedro Astorino has officially announced his commitment to Head Coach Adam Lakey and the Lambton Men’s Soccer Program for the 2024 season, and beyond.
Astorino is the second member of the 2024 recruiting class for Lakey and company. He joins Marshall Mathé (London, Ont.) as newcomers with the Men’s Soccer Program heading into the 2024 season.
“I’ve been really looking forward to today,” said Astorino. “Playing after (high) school is something that I’ve always wanted to do, and I get to do it with guys that I’ve been playing with for a while now.”
“Today met, and exceeded, my expectations.”
Astorino, a five-foot-ten midfielder, comes to Lambton College by way of nearby Great Lakes Secondary School in Sarnia, where he played for the Wolfpack senior Boys’ program. Astorino and the Wolfpack dropped a heartbreaker in the Lambton-Kent Secondary School Athletic Association (LKSSAA) AA Final back on May 23rd, falling 1-0 to Wallaceburg District Secondary School.
In addition to his time with the Wolfpack, Astorino also suits up for the Saria FC Men’s Program in the summer months. The Sarnia FC Men’s Roster features several past and present members of the Lambton Men’s Soccer Program, including Giordano Troiani, Ky Duong, Ben Crombeen, and Ben Lowe, among others.
The Sarnia FC – Lambton connection helped Lakey get a first-hand look at what Astorino brings on the field and played a big part in Astorino’s commitment to the Lions.
“Pedro is a skilled player who brings hunger and tenacity to every game and training session that he is part of,” added Lakey. “I’ve seen Pedro play many times with Sarnia FC, and what always struck me was his desire to win.”
“What’s really exciting is how much he wants to be part of our program. We’ve had numerous conversations about coming to Lambton, and what’s always stood out is how much he wanted to be a part of our program.”
Astorino was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He and his family moved to Canada in 2021 and settled in Sarnia. Now, he’ll take the step in his soccer journey and begin his post-secondary career with the Lions, a move that he’s looking forward to taking.
He’s also looking forward to showing Lambton fans what he’s capable of on the field.
“I’m looking forward to coming to Lambton because this is a big step up for my game,” added Astorino. “I’m going to defend, I’m going to attack, and I’m going to everything that I have to on the field.”
He concluded with one final statement.
“I ain’t scared of anything.”
Astorino will be enrolled in the Sports & Recreation Management Program at Lambton College.
The Lions are coming off a rebuilding year in 2023. The Lions featured 18 first-year student-athletes on their roster this past season, and the transition to post-secondary soccer produced its share of growing pains. With many of those athletes expected back in 2024, there’s a heightened level of optimism surrounding the program moving ahead.
With the addition of Astorino to the mix heading into the 2024 season, the levels of excitement and anticipation ahead of the new season have only increased.
Welcome to The Den, Pedro!
