SARNIA – A sharpshooter is making his way to The Den.
Wing Parker Carruthers has officially announced his commitment to Head Coach James Grant and the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for the 2024-25 season, and beyond.
Carruthers is the latest addition to the Men’s Basketball Program in what has turned out to be both a talented and transformational 2024 recruiting class for the program heading into the 2024-25 season, and for years down the road.
“I’m very excited to see what the future holds for me,” said Carruthers after his signing event. “I’m excited for the opportunity to play with new guys, as well as play with some guys that I’ve played with in the past.”
“It’s a new environment for me. I’m looking forward to putting in the work and competing in practice and in games. Overall, I’m very excited to make my commitment official.”
Carruthers, a versatile six-foot-three wing who can play from one through three in the lineup on any given night, comes to Lambton College by way of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga.
Outside of high school, Carruthers plays for Burloak Prep Academy, and is currently teammates with Owen Papineau and Clayton Burgess, both of whom are Lambton commits and will suit up with the Lions in September.
First impressions often go a long way, and Carruthers made a strong first impression on Coach Grant and other members of the coaching staff when they first saw him in action on the floor. That first impression left a lasting impact, and Grant is excited about the potential that Carruthers brings to the roster.
“Parker has a very high basketball IQ, which was evident from the very first time we saw him play,” said Grant. “He moves well off the ball and consistently gets himself into great position on the court.”
“Most importantly, next year for the team, is that he shoots the ball at a high percentage. You need players who can make the three in this league, and he can certainly do that.”
Carruthers is looking forward to showcasing his shooting ability, and other talents on the court, for Lambton fans when the 2024-25 season begins in the fall.
“What will stand out is my shooting ability,” added Carruthers. “I like to think of myself as a combo guard, a leader on the floor, and overall, a hard worker.”
Carruthers is the latest in a long line of versatile recruits to commit to the program for the 2024-25 season, and beyond. Coach Grant and company will be able to get creative with their lineups and looks this coming season with the ability to slot several players into different spots on the court.
Academically, Carruthers will be enrolled in the Police Foundations Program at Lambton College.
Welcome to The Den, Parker!
