Lions Get Commitment from Cathedral High School, Hamilton Elite Guard Mike Decius Ahead of 2025-26 Campaign

SARNIA – Another elite addition to the program from the Steel City.

Guard Mike Decius has officially committed to Head Coach James Grant and the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for the 2025-26 season, and beyond.

Decius is the ninth member of the 2025 recruiting class for Grant and company as they continue their reload of talent. Decius joins a talented crop of incoming recruits that features the likes of Blake Redfern (Mitchell, Ont.), Liam Tosh (Brantford, Ont.), Traivon Hayes (Brantford, Ont.), Billy Van Boxtel (London, Ont.), Kadin Cantrell (Port Huron, Mich.), Mekhi Wilson (Burlington, Ont.), Milos Lukac (Hamilton, Ont.), and Matthew Kment (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.).

“I’m definitely excited to play for Lambton College,” said Decius after making his collegiate decision official at his high school in Hamilton. “Leaving this high school, I made a lot of memories here, but at the end of the day, I’m ready for a new chapter and I’m excited to play for Coach Grant.”

“I’m ready to put the work in and do whatever the team needs me to do. I just want to win. Whatever Coach James and the staff need me to do to help the team win, I’m willing to do that. I’m also excited to be in a new city and to experience something new.”

Decius, a six-foot guard, comes to Lambton College by way of Cathedral High School in his hometown of Hamilton. Decius played for the Gaels Senior Boys Basketball Program this season.

Back in February, Decius and his teammates won the 48th Annual Ontario Catholic Classic Tournament, posting a 4-0 record in the tournament and picking up wins over the likes of defending champions St. Francis and the Silver Fox Tournament champions from Holy Names.

Outside of high school, Decius plays for the Hamilton Elite U19 program that competes in the Spring/Summer League with NPH.

With the Lions, Decius will be reunited with Hamilton Elite teammates Liam Tosh and Traivon Hayes, while he’ll also play alongside Elite alum Alec Eder.

Coach Grant is excited about the potential that Decius brings to the roster this season, both on and off the court.

“Mike is exactly the type of player we were looking to add to this year’s recruiting class,” said Grant. “He is super athletic and can play both sides of the ball.”

“Mike is a very smart player, and he has the ability to add aspects to our game that we were lacking last season. Considering our focus on team culture, he is a perfect fit there, as well. We are lucky that he chose to call Lambton College home.”

Academically, Decius will be enrolled in the Welding Techniques Program at Lambton College.

When asked about the type of basketball player he is on the floor, Decius was quick to point out his drive and effort on the court. He cited that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to help the team be successful in whatever role he’ll play with the Lions in the fall.

“For me, whenever I step out there, I’m going to give 110%,” added Decius. “I’m going to do what I got to do to win.”

“So, if that’s going to be playing defense, picking up full court, playmaking … whatever my role is, I’m willing to do it and I’ll give 110% at all times.”

Welcome to The Den, Mike!
