SARNIA – A full circle recruiting moment for the Lions.
Forward Matthew Kment has officially committed to Head Coach James Grant and the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for the 2025-26 season, and beyond.
Kment is the eighth member of the 2025 recruiting class for Grant and the rest of his coaching staff as they continue their re-tooling process. When the new season rolls around in the Fall, Kment will join the likes of Blake Redfern (Mitchell, Ont.), Liam Tosh (Brantford, Ont.), Traivon Hayes (Brantford, Ont.), Billy Van Boxtel (London, Ont.), Kadin Cantrell (Port Huron, Mich.), Mekhi Wilson (Burlington, Ont.), and Milos Lukac (Hamilton, Ont.) as a newcomer in a Lambton uniform.
“Joining the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program is an incredible feeling,” said Kment. “It’s a new chapter in my life, and I’m looking forward to helping our team win.”
“I’m very excited and grateful for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to building new relationships with my teammates and coaches, along with moving away to a new city to play for a great program.”
Kment, a six-foot-six forward, comes to Lambton College by way of Sault Ste. Marie where he attended Korah Collegiate and Vocational School. From there, Kment committed to play basketball at Sault College, appearing in six games during the 2019-20 season, which was the last year of basketball competition for the Cougars.
During the 2019-20 season, Kment started all six games he appeared in as a rookie. In just his third OCAA game, Kment recorded a season-high 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting (62.5%) from the field against Conestoga. He also recorded seven rebounds on the day, and Kment averaged 4.5 rebounds per game over his six games.
The Cougars’ basketball programs folded prior to the 2021-22 season after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite being away from the OCAA for a few years, Kment is looking forward to returning to the collegiate level.
“I am very excited to compete at this level again,” added Kment. “I’m eager to show how I’ve grown as a player.”
“I feel that I have developed greatly since my last season. I’ve worked to improve my perimeter/post-game, my basketball IQ, and ability to play above the rim. I believe this development will allow me to make a significant impact on the court this season.”
Grant is looking forward to Kment joining the Lions this fall. After initially recruiting Kment when he played for the Korah Colts, the recruiting process has now come full circle for Grant, and he’ll have Kment in a Lambton uniform in September.
“Matt was someone that I had been recruiting when he was coming out of high school,” said Grant. “He was a dominant, physical player that also had the ability to shoot the ball well.”
“His educational path took him a different direction, but I am happy that he found his way to Lambton College now. We are still going to be a fairly young team next season, and Matt’s presence, both on the court and in the locker room, is bound to help us be a better basketball team.”
Welcome to The Den, Matt!
