Mitchell Wing Jack Small Commits to Lambton Men's Basketball Program

SARNIA – A big-time addition to the program.

Wing Jack Small has officially announced his commitment to Head Coach James Grant and the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for the 2025-26 season, and beyond.

Small is the 10th member of a talented 2025 recruiting class for Grant and the rest of the Lions coaching staff as the team continues its youth movement and reloading of talent for the future. Small joins a talented incoming crop of recruits that features Blake Redfern (Mitchell, Ont.), Liam Tosh (Brantford, Ont.), Traivon Hayes (Brantford, Ont.), Billy Van Boxtel (London, Ont.), Kadin Cantrell (Port Huron, Mich.), Mekhi Wilson (Burlington, Ont.), Milos Lukac (Hamilton, Ont.), Matthew Kment (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.), and Mike Decius (Hamilton, Ont.).

“It’s an exciting day,” said Small. “It’s very relieving to have the recruiting process done, and I’m looking forward to getting started here.”

“I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of the new guys and just building those connections. I’m looking forward to the late nights, the workouts and practices, and just living in a new city. Coming from a small town, I’m not really used to living in a bigger city, so it’s going to be quite the change.”

Small, a six-foot-four wing, comes to Lambton College by way of Mitchell District High School in his hometown of Mitchell. Small played for the Blue Devils Senior Boys Basketball Program, and was part of the 2024 roster that won the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) ‘A’ Championship.

Growing up, Small was a two-sport athlete, playing both basketball and baseball. When it came time to choose one or the other, he turned all his focus and attention to the hardwood.

With his commitment to the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program, Small is the fourth member of the Blue Devils to commit to Lambton College in recent years. He will be reunited with Redfern on the Men’s Basketball roster, while he’ll share the hallways with fellow MDHS graduates in Kale Murray and Luke Murray from the Men’s Baseball Program.

It was during Redfern’s recruitment process that Coach Grant was first introduced to Small. Fast forward a few months, and the pair of Blue Devils will be on the same collegiate roster for the Lions.

“I met Jack while we were in the process of having Blake Redfern work out for us,” said Grant. “You could tell right away he was a great kid with a lot of drive.”

“He totally fits our trajectory as a program. We are looking forward to seeing Jack bring his tough as nails attitude to Lambton College this fall.”

For Small, having Redfern on the roster and the Murray twins around campus is something that is going to help make his transition to the collegiate level and a bigger city a bit easier.

“It does a lot for me, just knowing that I have people here that I can turn to if I need them,” added Small. “The connection I have with Blake when we play together, I know where he’s going to be on the floor so if I ever need somebody out there in a situation, I know where to turn to.”

Academically, Small will be enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program at Lambton College.

Welcome to The Den, Jack!
