Lions Add Lefthander Kyra Joseph to 2024 Recruiting Class

SARNIA – Rounded out the recruiting class with a lefty.

Kyra Joseph has officially announced her commitment to Head Coach Greg Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2024 season, and beyond!

Joseph is the sixth member of the recruiting class for Coach Shortt and his coaching staff. Joseph will join the likes of Gracie Harse (Petrolia, Ont.), Mikenna Verschueren (Tillsonburg, Ont.), Alley McLean (Corunna, Ont.), Elisabeth Bailey (London, Ont.), and Robyn Denomme (Exeter, Ont.) as a newcomer in a Lambton uniform when the 2024 season opens in early September.

“I’m both excited and a bit nervous for the next chapter,” said Joseph. “I’m looking forward to joining the Women’s Softball Program and working towards bettering myself as a softball player.”

“My hitting stands out, and so does my pitching. I’m ready to do whatever I can to help the team be successful this season.”

Joseph, a five-foot-five pitcher and first baseman from Moraviantown, comes to Lambton College from Ridgetown District High School. The lefthander plays her summer softball with the Kitchener Klassics program. She has a wealth of experience in softball at different levels, and through playing for multiple programs over the years.

Earlier this month, Joseph was in Regina for the 2024 Canadian Native Fastball Championships with the Alexis Grizzlies.

Heading into the 2024 season, Shortt is excited about what Joseph brings to the roster on both sides of the ball.

“We’re excited to welcome Kyra to our program,” said Shortt. “She’s a strong left-handed pitcher that will help out pitching rotation, while also giving us options in the field with her ability to play first base.”

“At the plate, her strong bat will give our offense another boost. We’re excited to see what Kyra can do with our group, alongside the rest of our newcomers and returning veterans as we prepare for the upcoming season.”

Academically, Joseph will be enrolled in the General Arts Program at Lambton College.

The Lions are coming off a 2023 season that saw the program once again contend for a playoff spot on the final weekend of the regular season for the second year in a row. Despite coming up short, the Lions continued to make positive strides in their second season in the OCAA, and they have their sights set on a post-season berth in 2024.

The addition of Joseph to the mix adds a coveted lefthanded arm on the mound and another strong bat at the plate, both of which will help to increase the levels of excitement and anticipation ahead of the 2024 season.

The Lions open the 2024 season on Saturday, September 7th on the road. They will host Minor Softball Day on Sunday, September 8th at their first home games of the season.

Welcome to The Den, Kyra!
