Catcher Elisabeth Bailey Commits to Lambton Women’s Softball for 2024 Season

SARNIA – Caught another talented recruit from the London Lightning Program.

Catcher Elisabeth Bailey has officially committed to Head Coach Greg Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2024 season and beyond.

Bailey is the fourth player to commit to the program as part of the 2024 recruiting class for Shortt and his coaching staff. Bailey joins Gracie Harse (Petrolia, Ont.), Mikenna Verschueren (Tillsonburg, Ont.), and Alley McLean (Corunna, Ont.) in the group of newcomers for the Lions heading into the new season in September.

“I’m excited to add a player like Elisabeth,” said Shortt. “Having coached against her in the past, her throwing strength and accuracy stood out to me from the catcher’s position, and her bat at the plate will be an asset to our lineup.”

Bailey, a five-foot-six catcher, comes to Lambton College from Saunders Secondary School in London. She is the latest recruit for the Women’s Softball Program to come from in or around the Forest City. Bailey plays her summer softball with the London Lightning program, and she will be reunited with some former teammates when she takes to the diamond in a Lambton uniform come September.

The opportunity to play softball at Lambton College while beginning her journey to becoming a firefighter were determining factors in Bailey committing to the Lions, and she’s looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.

“I’ve worked so hard for so long to be able to get to this level and to get into school, so I’m very excited to play here,” said Bailey. “I’m looking forward to playing softball with the girls, some of whom I have played with before.”

“I’m also looking forward to my program. I’ve wanted to become a firefighter for a while, and with softball here too, Lambton was the perfect place to go.”

Academically, Bailey will be enrolled in the Pre-Service Firefighter Education & Training Program.

The Lions are coming off a 2023 season that saw the program once again contend for a playoff spot on the final weekend of the regular season for the second year in a row. Despite coming up short, the Lions continued to make positive strides in their second season in the OCAA, and they have their sights set on a post-season berth in 2024.

The addition of Bailey to the mix adds depth behind the plate, and it helps increase the levels of excitement and anticipation ahead of the 2024 season.

Welcome to The Den, Elisabeth!
