SARNIA – A big-time addition to the squad.
Jeryn Shortt has officially committed to Head Coach Al Bezaire and the Lambton Men’s Baseball Program for the 2025 season, and beyond.
Shortt committed to the Lions alongside his Simcoe Giants teammate Aidan Littler. The pair join pitcher/outfielder Julian Concisom (Brampton, Ont.) in the 2025 recruiting class for Bezaire and the rest of the Lions coaching staff.
“We are very excited to welcome Jeryn to the Lambton Lions family,” said Bezaire. “He has been on my radar for quite some time, and I was lucky enough to watch him last spring at OFSAA Regionals in Windsor face Kale Murray, where his offensive ability left me very impressed.”
“We hope he can be a two-way threat as a starting pitcher and offensively at the plate, much like Kale (Murray) was last year for us.”
Shortt, a six-foot-five pitcher / corner infielder, comes to Lambton College by way of Simcoe Composite School in Simcoe. On the diamond, he’s grown up and developed through the Simcoe Giants program.
Last summer, Shortt, Littler, and the Giants won the OBA 18U B Championship.
Now, as he gets set to begin the next chapter of his academic and athletic career at Lambton College, Shortt is looking forward to what lies ahead for him in a Lions uniform.
“It’s an awesome feeling,” said Shortt. “I’m the type of player that’s going to give 110% every time out. I’m someone that throws the ball hard, can hit it hard at the plate, and can play some defense in the infield.”
“I’m looking forward to winning. That’s the biggest thing, straightforward, is winning and doing whatever it takes to help the team win.”
Shortt shared his commitment day with Littler inside the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex, marking a special day for the pair of longtime friends and teammates.
Sharing the spotlight with Littler was the perfect way for Shortt to make his collegiate decision official.
“I’ve been friends with Aidan since before I can even remember,” added Shortt. “We’ve been playing baseball together for 10-12 years. I never thought that coming to a great school and a great program with one of my best friends would come true, but it did. It’s an awesome feeling.”
Academically, Shortt will be enrolled in the Sports & Recreation Management Program at Lambton College.
In addition to his six-foot-five frame, Shortt bring with him an aspect of versatility that will be a welcome addition to the Lambton depth chart. The right-hander gives the Lions another strong option on the mound, either in a starting spot or in relief. On defense, his ability to play at both corner positions adds more depth to an already talented infield rotation.
Add in an explosive bat at the dish, and the addition of Shortt is a significant one for the group moving forward.
The Lions are coming off a 2024 season that saw the program win an OCAA Silver Medal on their home diamond at the 2024 OCAA Men’s Baseball Championships. Making their first post-season appearance in the program’s brief five-year history, the Lions shut out Durham in the semifinals to advance to the Gold Medal Game. A loss to St. Clair ended their season, but a Silver Medal gave them something to be proud of.
Now, with their sights set on more this coming season, the Lions are hopeful that the addition of Shortt can give them the boost they need to get back to the Championship game for a second year in a row.
Welcome to The Den, Jeryn!
