Zurich Born Backstop Bryson Steckle Commits to Lambton Men’s Baseball Program

SARNIA – Caught another talented piece for the program.

Catcher Bryson Steckle has officially announced his commitment to Head Coach Al Bezaire and the Lambton Men’s Baseball Program for the 2024 season, and beyond.

Steckle is the fifth commitment in the 2024 recruiting class for Bezaire and his coaching staff. Come September, Steckle will join the likes of Kale Murray (Mitchell, Ont.), Luke Murray (Mitchell, Ont.), Drew Bunda (Wallaceburg, Ont.), and AJ Edwards (Brampton, Ont.) as a newcomer with the Lions on the diamond.

“I’m excited to join the baseball team here at Lambton,” said Steckle. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about the program, and I’m looking forward to playing baseball here while I get my education.”

“I’m excited to play with a new group of guys and getting to know everyone. As a catcher, it’s always a blast learning how different guys play and go about the game.”

Steckle, a six-foot-two catcher, comes to Lambton College by way of St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School in Clinton where he played varsity baseball for the Eagles. Outside of high school, Steckle plays for the Ontario Nationals 17U program.

They say that first impressions are everything. For Bezaire, he looks back at their initial meeting and what stood out about Steckle and how he would fit into what he’s trying to build at Lambton College.

“We are very happy to add Bryson to our program,” said Bezaire. “During our initial meeting, I was impressed with his attitude, commitment to his game, and most importantly, his desire to be a great teammate.”

“He fully understands the concept of what it means to be a part of a team, and I know he will continue to put in the work to help our club in any capacity he can. I look forward to having Bryson join our program this fall, and I am excited to see how he can contribute to our continued growth and success.”

When asked what Lambton fans can expect to see from him on the field this season, and for years to come, Steckle was quick to echo similar words to those of Bezaire when it comes to his on-field contributions.

“I like to just have fun out there,” added Steckle. “Fans can expect to see me make good plays defensively.”

“At the plate, I’m a good contact hitter, and I try to be aggressive when I can on the basepaths. Nothing too crazy, I just try to have fun when I’m out there.”

Academically, Steckle will be enrolled in the Power Engineering Technology Program at Lambton College.

The Lions are coming off a 2023 season that saw them contend for a spot in the postseason on the final day of the regular season, but they ultimately fell short by a game. Still, it was another season of forward progress for the group, and they have their sights set on continuing their positive progression in 2024.

As the host institution for the 2024 OCAA Men’s Baseball Championships in October, the Lions will be guaranteed a spot in the six-team field. Still, Bezaire and company want to go out and earn their spot in the field. With the addition of Steckle to the mix, they’ve added more depth behind the plate while giving the lineup yet another player who’s willing to do whatever he can to help the team be successful.

The Lions open the 2024 season on Sunday, September 8th at Fanshawe. Their home opener is set for Saturday, September 14th against the Sheridan Bruins at Errol Russell Park.

Welcome to The Den, Bryson!
