Ben Lowe, Paiton Choy Named Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week for October 2-8, 2023

SARNIA – Opened October in a big way.

Second year defender / midfielder Ben Lowe (Men’s Soccer) and second-year pitcher / first baseman Paiton Choy (Women’s Softball) have been named the Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of October 2nd to 8th for their efforts on the pitch and diamond.

Lowe, a second-year student-athlete from the United Kingdom, picked up his first career OCAA goal against the visiting St. Clair Saints on Wednesday night at the Lambton College Soccer Field on a penalty kick in the second half.

In the first half, Lowe knocked on the door of his first goal in a Lambton uniform, but he saw his chance thwarted by the Saints keeper and the post. On a free kick from just outside the box, Lowe sent a shot towards the top right corner. The St. Clair keeper made a diving stop, getting some help from the goal post in the process to keep the ball out of the net.

Lowe got his revenge in the second half. The Lions were awarded a penalty kick midway through the half, and Lowe stepped up to the spot looking to get the Lions to within a goal at the time. He sent his shot into the bottom left corner for his first OCAA goal.

Choy, a second-year pitcher and first baseman from Oshawa, had an impact on both sides of the ball for the Lions in their Friday night sweep on the road against the Seneca Sting. Choy picked up the win on the mound in Game One while going a combined 3-for-8 at the plate over the two games.

In Game One, Choy got the start on the mound for the Lions. Choy threw six innings of one-run softball, racking up four strikeouts along the way for her second win of the season.

At the plate, Choy also did her part to keep the offense rolling. In Game One, Choy went 2-for-4, scoring a run to help herself on the mound. In Game Two, she went 1-for-4 with one run batted in. Choy also drew a walk in the 12-7 win for the Lions.

For the season, Choy is batting .341, having picked up 14 hits over 16 games. She has four RBIs to her name, along with seven runs scored.

Congratulations to both Ben and Paiton on being named this week’s Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week!

This year’s Athlete of the Week awards are presented by the Lambton College Student Administrative Council.
