Centre Midfielder Morgan Colameco Commits to Lambton Women’s Soccer for 2023 Season

SARNIA – Home sweet home.

Centre midfielder Morgan Colameco has officially announced her commitment to Head Coach Kevin Simmonds and the Lambton Women’s Soccer Program for the 2023 season, and beyond.

Colameco is the sixth member of the 2023 recruiting class for Simmonds and his coaching staff. Colameco joins Lauren Goldsack (London, Ont.), Maddy Forte (Sarnia, Ont.), Charlize Wildschut (Sarnia, Ont.), Darlene Forbes (Sarnia, Ont.), and Madison McAlpine (Sarnia, Ont.) as commitments for the program ahead of September and the start of the 2023 campaign.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Lambton Women’s Soccer Program and to play with the girls I’ve been playing with before while meeting my new teammates,” said Colameco. “I really like the campus, and I’m looking forward to being part of the Lambton College community altogether.”

Born and raised in Sarnia, Colameco has grown up in and around the soccer community in Sarnia-Lambton. The five-foot-four centre midfielder comes to Lambton College by way of St. Patrick’s Catholic High School, becoming the latest member of the Fighting Irish to commit to the Lions.

While playing at St. Patrick’s for the Fighting Irish, Colameco has been an opponent with several of her new teammates over the years in high school soccer. Now, she’ll be lining up alongside many of them at the collegiate level come September.

In addition to playing for the Senior Girls soccer program at St. Patrick’s, Colameco suits up for the Sarnia Spirit Elite Women’s Program in the summer months. The Spirit roster also features fellow newcomers in Wildschut and McAlpine along with Justine Pugsley, who just completed her fourth year of eligibility with the Lions in 2022.

Like many of the other recruits for the Lions this year, both in Women’s Soccer and across the board, staying home was a big selling point for Colameco when it came time to make her final decision.

“Having my friends and family be able to support me, it’s one of the best things about staying home,” continued Colameco. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

While she primarily lines up as a centre midfielder, Colameco also has experience as a forward. That versatility has allowed her to develop her skills and give her an increased level of confidence on the field as she’s progressed through the soccer system. Now, Colameco is hoping to use those things to her advantage in the OCAA.

“I think that I can contribute a lot to the team,” added Colameco. “Hopefully, I can do a lot of different things with my skills and my confidence.”

Academically, Colameco will be enrolled in the General Arts & Science Program at Lambton College.

The Lions are coming off a rebuilding year in 2022. With many newcomers put into key roles as early as the first weekend, the Lions had to adjust to the collegiate game on the fly, and getting their feet set underneath them posed to be a challenge, at times.

Heading into the 2023 season, Simmonds and the Lions will be looking to use that gained experience from last season to their advantage. With the addition of Colameco in the midfield, the group is building towards an exciting future that will kick off in September.

Welcome to The Den, Morgan!
