Women’s Soccer Lands First Recruit in 2023 Class with Lauren Goldsack Commitment

SARNIA – The London-Sarnia connection has led to another student-athlete joining the Lambton College family.

Lauren Goldsack has officially committed to Head Coach Kevin Simmonds and the Lambton Women’s Soccer Program for the 2023 season, and beyond.

Goldsack is the first member of the 2023 recruiting class for Simmonds and his staff.

“We are proud and excited to announce the commitment of Lauren to our Women’s Soccer program at Lambton College,” said Simmonds. “she’s a goalkeeper with excellent technical skills, and her enthusiasm and love for the game will be a great asset to the team.”

Goldsack, who is the latest recruit to commit to the Lions by way of London, comes to Lambton College from Catholic Central High School, the same high school that Women’s Basketball guard Mack Umbelina attended before she committed to the Lions.

While at Lambton College, Goldsack will be studying in the Sports & Recreation Management Program, which is also the same program that Umbelina will graduate from this April.

As a multi-sport athlete and general fan of sports herself, the program was a big selling point when it came time for Goldsack to choose her college.

“It’s a program that I’ve been looking into for quite a while,” said Goldsack. “Since I have a pretty broad sports background, it seems like a really good fit for me, academically.”

“As for the college itself, I like that it’s a smaller environment where you can get to know your classmates and teammates.”

In addition to soccer, Goldsack has played a variety of sports, both in high school and outside of school. This year alone, Goldsack is part of her high school’s wrestling and badminton teams, in addition to the soccer program.

She also plays hockey, although she suits up as a forward on the ice instead of in net, and she has developed a love for pickleball.

Now at the post-secondary level, Goldsack will focus on soccer as she gets set to begin the Lambton College chapter of her athletic and academic career.

When asked what fans and her teammates can expect from her on the field come September, Goldsack was quick with her response.

“Communication and effort,” said Goldsack. “I’m loud, and I think good communication is key to the team’s success so I hope that I can help in that aspect.”

“I’m also not afraid to hit the ground and dive for balls coming at the net.”

The Lions are coming off a bit of a rebuilding year in 2022, one that saw several key players for the team get bit by the injury bug. The Lions had just eight players with any collegiate experience coming into the season, meaning newcomers were thrust into key roles from the outset of the season.

With Goldsack now in the mix, the Lions have added plenty of depth and talent at the goalkeeper position, which will then allow for Simmonds and company to build around a solid base in net.

Welcome to The Den, Lauren!
