Breanna Pretty Named 2023-24 OCAA Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian

Breanna Pretty Named 2023-24 OCAA Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian

SARNIA – Number eleven is one of one in the OCAA.

Fourth year wing Breanna Pretty (Sarnia, Ont.) has been named the OCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season, as well as a CCAA All-Canadian.

She will now go forward as the OCAA’s candidate for CCAA Player of the Year, which is announced in March ahead of the 2024 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship in Lakeland, Alberta.

In addition to being named the OCAA Player of the Year and an All-Canadian, Pretty was named the West Division Player of the Year and a West Division First Team All-Star.

Pretty, who attended St. Patrick’s Catholic High School in Sarnia, has been as consistent as they come throughout her OCAA career and the 2023-24 season was no different.

Despite averaging the least number of minutes in a season in her career (26.3 minutes per game), Pretty still averaged a team-high 14.0 points per game to go along with 6.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists. She shot 45.0% from the field, which was the seventh-best mark in the league, and 75.9% from the free throw line, which ranked fifth across the OCAA.

Pretty also ranked fourth in the OCAA in total assists (62), fifth in assists per game (3.9), seventh in total points (224), and eighth in total steals (45).

Throughout her Lambton career, Pretty has been a consistent presence on both ends of the floor. In each of the last three seasons, she has averaged either 14.0 points or 14.1 points per game (14.0 in 2023-24; 14.1 in 2022-23 and 2021-22). Defensively, Pretty consistently ranks among the OCAA leaders in several statistical categories.

A four-year starter for the Lions, Pretty has accumulated quite an extensive resume when it comes to OCAA accolades:

  • CCAA All-Canadian (2023-24)
  • OCAA Player of the Year (2023-24)
  • OCAA West Division Player of the Year (2023-24)
  • OCAA West Division Defensive Player of the Year (2022-23)
  • OCAA West Division Rookie of the Year (2019-20)
  • 2x OCAA West Division First Team All-Star (2023-23, 2022-23)
  • 1x OCAA West Division Second Team All-Star (2021-22)
  • 1x OCAA West Division All-Rookie Team (2019-20)

Pretty has been a key cog in the development of the Lambton Women’s Basketball Program over her tenure with the program. After going 11-7 in her first season with the Lions, she has seen the program grow with each passing year, growth that was highlighted by last season’s OCAA Silver Medal.

This season, Pretty and the Lions have reached new heights, and are still looking for more. They have been ranked as high as seventh in the CCAA Women’s Basketball National Rankings, and they are looking to carry their regular season success into the playoffs.

Pretty and the Lions will continue their playoff push on Saturday, February 24th when they host the Humber Hawks in the OCAA Quarterfinals. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. inside the Cestar Group Athletics & Fitness Complex.
