Women's Basketball Season Recap

When the final buzzer sounded, a loss to the now OCAA champion Humber Hawks, it signalled an end to a roller coaster of a season. The Lady Lions could not ride enough of the highs as they failed to return to the playoffs after getting a taste last year. Lambton finished the year with a 5-13 record and a determination to improve for next year.

After losing a handful of veteran starters from last year's playoff roster, the Lady Lions began the season with an abundance of new faces. As the season unfolded, Lambton ultimately found their place in the league, besting Cambrian and Sault twice each, while splitting with Sheridan. It was a respectable finish in the league for the new faces, as with a year under their belt we can expect them to finish even higher next season. However, it won't be without the loss of a couple of players, as veterans Lauren Van Leerzem, Sara Williams, and Lindsay Graham are all graduating from the program.

2016-17 did provide some individual highlights for the Lady Lions. Madisyn Campbell stepped up in a big way as the teams leading scorer, finishing 5th in the OCAA with 19.1 ppg. She was also honoured as the OCAA Player of the Week for her peformances against Cambrian. Rebounding proved to be a strength for the team, as both Van Leerzem(9th; 9.4rbg) and Christine Fleischer(8th; 9.5rbg) finished the season in the Top 10 in rebounding.

Lastly, we are sad to announce that Head Coach Dave Elsley will not be returning for next season. Coach Elsley was an assistant with the Men's program for two years before assuming the Head Coach role for the Women mid-way through the 2015-16 season. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors and thank him for all his contributions throughout his tenure at Lambton.

Congratulations on a great season ladies, we look forward to seeing you compete on the hardwood next season.
