Lions Land Commitment from Sarnia FC Midfielder Giordano Troiani

SARNIA – Ready to play for the badge.

Giordano Troiani has officially announced his commitment to Head Coach Adam Lakey and the Lambton Men’s Soccer Program for the 2023 season.

Troiani is the fifth member of the 2023 recruiting class for Lakey and his coaching staff, all of which have come from the Sarnia-Lambton soccer community. Troiani joins the likes of Ben Crombeen (Sarnia, Ont.), Ashton Vink (Wallaceburg, Ont.), Darren Lapointe (Sarnia, Ont.), and Landon Buckingham (Sarnia, Ont.) in the 2023 recruiting class for the Lions.

“It feels great to have the opportunity to compete for Lambton,” said Troiani. “It’s a great program, the coaches have treated me well throughout this process, and I’m excited to get going.”

Born and raised in Sarnia, Troiani is no stranger to the soccer community in town. He comes to Lambton College from St. Patrick’s Catholic High School, becoming the latest Fighting Irish alum to make the transition to post-secondary sport at Lambton College.

The five-foot-nine midfielder, who doubles as a forward if need be, suits up for the Sarnia FC U18 program with fellow Lambton commit Landon Buckingham.

The Sarnia FC program is how Lakey became familiar with what Troiani brings, both on and off the field.

“Giordano is a player I’ve watched for a number of years, and he played for me with the Sarnia FC men’s program a few times last year and performed well,” said Lakey. “He’s a skilled player, one that I expect to come in and compete for playing time right away.”

“On top of what he brings on the field, Giordano is a leader. He does an excellent job of bringing his teammates together, creating cohesiveness, and I think he’ll add to the culture we want to create.”

With his commitment now official, Troiani is looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead come September. He’s eager to show fans of the Lions what he’s capable of on the field.

“When I come out and we get going in September, I’ll be hard working and ready to give 100%,” added Troiani. “I’m just ready to play for the badge.”

Troiani and Buckingham have grown up together in the Sarnia soccer community and have played alongside one another for their entire lives. Both are hoping that their level of familiarity with one another will translate to success at the collegiate level.

Academically, Troiani will be enrolled in the Business Administration – Accounting Program while at Lambton College.

The Lions are coming off a 2022 season that saw the program advance to the post-season for the second time in the last three seasons. With several newcomers on last year’s roster having taken on key roles from the outset of the season, the future is bright for the Lions heading into the 2023 season.

Giordano’s addition adds depth and versatility to the lineup heading into the new season, given his ability to take the field at multiple positions.

The Lions open their 2023 season on Saturday, September 9th at home against the Sheridan Bruins. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. in the Men’s Game.
