Thomas Named an OCAA All-Star, Bogart Named to All-Rookie Team for 2023-24 Season

SARNIA – Two Lions newcomers have picked up OCAA awards.

Third year guard JK Thomas (Marion, Ind.) and first-year guard Brandon Bogart (St. Thomas, Ont.) were named as award winners on the heels of the 2023-24 season by the OCAA for their efforts on the court for the Lions this season.

Thomas, who is in his first season with the Lions after spending his first two years of eligibility playing at the JUCO level in the United States, made an immediate impact for the Lions. He secured both the West Division Scoring Title and the overall League Scoring Title after averaging 26.1 points per game throughout his first season north of the border.

It marks the second consecutive year that the Lions won at least a share of both the West Division and League scoring titles. Journee Joseph (Brampton, Ont.) shared last season’s awards with former Conestoga forward Terell Lloyd (25.1 ppg).

In his first game with the Lions back on October 20th, which was also his regular season home debut, Thomas scored 41 points to kick off his historic season on offense. Thomas had at least 10 points in all 18 regular season games, 16 of which saw him score at least 20 points. He recorded 469 points during the regular season, ranking among the single-season leaders in Lambton Men’s Basketball history.

Thomas was also named a West Division First Team All-Star.

Bogart, a first-year guard from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, was named to the West Division All-Rookie Team after putting together a strong debut season at the post-secondary level.

Bogart averaged 19.2 minutes per game while playing in all 18 games during the regular season, making two starts along the way. He averaged 6.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting 33.0% from the field and 68.1% from the free throw line.

As the season progressed, Bogart’s confidence grew on the court as he became more accustomed to playing at the college level, and his numbers started to reflect that on both ends of the court. Over the final five games of the regular season, Bogart recorded double-digit points on four occasions, averaging 11.6 points per game while shooting 44.2% from the field over that stretch.

Bogart also averaged 2.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game over the final five-game stretch of the season.
