Lions Land Commitment from Windsor Product Denin Lual

SARNIA – The Lions are continuing to build towards the future.

Wing Denin Lual has officially announced his commitment to Head Coach James Grant and the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for the 2023-23 season, and beyond.

Lual is the sixth member of the 2023 recruiting class for Grant and the Lions. He joins a talented recruiting class that features the likes of Brandon Bogart (St. Thomas, Ont.), Albin Gashi (Cambridge, Ont.), Evander Doxilly (Sarnia, Ont.), Brian Avalo Barrera (London, Ont.), and Sulaiman Murtaza (Cambridge, Ont.).

“We just happened to be scouting in Windsor one night and came across Denin’s high school team, and we knew right away that he was the type of player we want here at Lambton College,” said Grant. “Denin is smart and athletic, and he’s shown in workouts that he has the ability to defend at a level that we need moving ahead.”

It was Lual’s athleticism that caught the eye of several members of the Lambton roster during the recruiting process. Lual’s quickness and athleticism were on display on both ends of the floor in various drills and scrimmages, and those aspects are what he hopes fans see from him when he takes the floor come September.

“I want the fans to see my speed, my hustle, and my defense,” said Lual. “I know I can make an impact on defense and help the team create opportunities on offense with my defense.”

Lual, a six-foot-two wing, comes to Lambton College from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Windsor. As he grew up and developed in the game, Lual didn’t play a lot of basketball outside of his own city. For the Lions and Lual to cross paths is something that’s not lost on Grant.

“For a player who didn’t play outside of his own city, we are fortunate to have met him,” added Grant on connecting with Lual. “Denin and his family are a great fit with our program and Lambton College.”

Lual was quick to point out the college environment as a key reason for his commitment decision.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to be involved here,” added Lual. “Lambton College is a great school, the environment is good, and everyone has welcomed me here so far.”

While at Lambton College, Lual will be studying in the Business Program.

The Lions are coming off a 2022-23 season that saw the program compete for an OCAA medal for the second consecutive year. Coach Grant and the Lions finished fourth at the 2023 OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship and will be looking to climb back onto the podium in the coming year.

With the addition of Lual to the mix, the Lions have added more athleticism and defensive prowess to their roster for the future.

Welcome to The Den, Denin!
