Men's Basketball Season Recap

The 2016-17 Lambton Lions men's basketball season came to a conclusion at the end of February with a pair of losses to the eventual Ontario Gold and Bronze medalists.

Branden Padgett was named to his third-straight OCAA West All-Star team and the squad was also a recipient of an OCAA Team of the Week nod in January. The biggest win for the team came at the Niagara College Holiday Tournament where they defeated then Canadian #8 Seneca by a score of 75-60.

The Lions returned only five players off of their 2015-16 OCAA bronze medal winning team and were hoping to see some strides by new players in this rebuilding year. Injuries to the squad throughout the season saw just eight of seventeen rostered players finish the year off healthy, with two more club team members joining the team at different waypoints of the season.

The new faces on the team were led by Xavian Edwards who averaged 8.8 points and 7.4 rebounds over the course of the year. Three veterans led the way in scoring with Padgett averaging 20.2, Jason Marshell 14.9 and Colton Vaters 10.0 points per game. Vaters would graduate in December leaving another hole to fill on the young team.

The Lions would like to thank graduating forward Frank Benneh and Vaters for their dedication to the program over their three years at Lambton. Padgett and Marshell will both be returning to the team for their fifth and final season in the OCAA. Padgett reached the 1,000 points plateau this year with Marshell closing in on the milestone.

Lambton finished the year 7-17 overall with a 3-13 record in OCAA West play.
