February 16th, 2016 will go down as a memorable day in the Lambton basketball program's history as the Lions received their first ever top-10 National ranking by the CCAA.
The Lions (20-7 overall, 11-5 OCAA) join a number of strong institutions in the national list off a great weekend of basketball in Sarnia.
On Saturday, Lambton defeated Mohawk College 103-75 behind a 21 point and 21 rebound effort from fifth year forward Mike Lucier who is currently leading the CCAA on the glass with 12.4 rebounds per game. It was the first nationally ranked match-up ever hosted at Lambton College in an sport.
It was a good Sunday for the Lions as well with Niagara visiting. In order to keep a home court playoff game in the cards the home side needed a win against the Knights. Branden Padgett, the top scorer in the OCAA West this season, had one of the best games of his career to bring home a 94-75 win. The Detroit native scored 22 points, had nine boards and racked up eight assists in a well-rounded effort.
Lambton's veteran crop has been a driving force behind the team this year. Here are their numbers (per game):
