Lions Land 2024 Commitment from Corunna SS/OF Alley McLean

SARNIA – Wrangled another local recruit for the 2024 season.

Alley McLean has officially announced her commitment to Head Coach Greg Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2024 season and beyond.

McLean is the third player in the 2024 recruiting class for Shortt and his coaching staff. She will join Gracie Harse (Petrolia, Ont.) and Mikenna Verschueren (Tillsonburg, Ont.) as newcomers in a Lambton uniform when the 2024 season opens in the Fall.

“Alley is a great team player and is someone who is willing to play wherever she is needed,” said Shortt on his latest recruit. “Her versatility, as well as her speed, make her a great addition to our squad.”

“Alley is someone who truly loves the game of softball and we’re excited to have her here at Lambton College.”

McLean, a five-foot-three shortshop/outfielder from Corunna, comes to Lambton College from Great Lakes Secondary School. Out of high school, McLean attended Wilfrid Laurier University, but opted to return home to continue her education and to play softball.

The Corunna native is also the latest in what’s becoming a lengthy list of players from the Wyoming Lady Wranglers organization to commit to Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program. McLean will rejoin several past teammates on the diamond when she makes her Lambton debut in the 2024 season.

“I’m just really excited to play for the Lambton Softball Team,” said McLean. “I’m excited to play with the girls that I play with in the summer and have been playing with for going on four years now.”

“I’m really excited about my program. The RN program is a super competitive program to get into, so I’m really looking forward to that. Softball is a big pro as well, as it’s always been my top hobby, so there’s going to be a lot of fun things here is how I’m looking at it.”

Academically, McLean will be enrolled in the Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing Program at Lambton College.

Since the program’s inception back in 2022, Shortt and his coaching staff have put an emphasis on recruiting student-athletes from in and around Sarnia-Lambton as they try to capitalize on the strength of the softball organizations in the community. Their goal has been to give local athletes a great opportunity to play varsity sport while receiving a top-quality education at Lambton College right at home.

McLean is the latest student-athlete to stay close to home for her academic and athletic journeys at the post-secondary level.

The Lions are coming off a 2023 season that saw the program once again contend for a playoff spot on the final weekend of the regular season for the second year in a row. Despite coming up short, the Lions continued to make positive strides in their second season in the OCAA, and they have their sights set on a post-season berth in 2024.

The addition of McLean to the mix only increases the levels of excitement and anticipation ahead of the 2024 season.

Welcome to The Den, Alley!
