Wyoming Product Riley Brush Commits to Lambton Women’s Softball

SARNIA – There’s some more local flare coming to the Lions in September.

Riley Brush has officially announced her commitment to Head Coach Greg Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2023 season, and beyond.

Brush is the fourth member of the 2023 recruiting class for Shortt and the Women’s Softball Program. She will join the likes of Kylee Shortt (Wyoming, Ont.), Ava Thompson (Wyoming, Ont.), and Bri Dugal (Ayr, Ont.) as newcomers with the Lions when September rolls around.

“I’ve been playing softball my whole life,” said Brush. “Playing at the college level is something new and I’m really excited for the opportunity.”

The commitment of Brush marks the third recruit for Coach Shortt and the Lions from Wyoming and the local softball community. Shortt has coached Brush throughout the ranks with the Wyoming Lady Wranglers and is quite familiar with what she brings to the diamond.

“She’s got a rocket for an arm,” said Shortt of his new third baseman. “She’s always played third base for me over the years, and she’s rock solid at what’s a challenging position on the diamond.”

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue coaching Riley, now at the collegiate level.”

Shortt also pointed out that Brush isn’t afraid to get dirty and dive for ground balls. He said that she plays the game extremely hard and is very competitive, especially on the defensive side of things.

In addition to athletics and the opportunity to continue her softball career, academics played a key role in Brush’s decision to ultimately choose Lambton College.

“I have heard that the Millwright Program here is really good,” added Brush, who will be studying in the Millwright Mechanical Technician Program. “I’m looking forward to it.”

The addition of Brush adds yet another level of familiarity to the Lambton roster for the upcoming 2023 season. With Shortt, Thompson, and Brush all having played for Coach Shortt with the Lady Wranglers, and having all played together, the group is hoping that their level of chemistry with one another will translate well to the collegiate game.

In 2022, the Lions found themselves in the hunt for a playoff spot in their inaugural season in the OCAA. While they would ultimately fall short of the post-season, the Lions will be looking to use that gained experience this time around. The Lions have their sights set on a playoff spot in 2023, and the addition of Brush to the mix will go a long way in helping the group achieve their goals.

Welcome to The Den, Riley!
