Lions Bolster Infield Depth with Commitment of Wyoming’s Paige Hudson

SARNIA – Keeping it local.

Paige Hudson has officially committed to Head Coach Greg Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2023 season, and beyond.

Hudson is the sixth member of the 2023 recruiting class for the Lions on the diamond. Hudson joins Kylee Shortt (Wyoming, Ont.), Ava Thompson (Wyoming, Ont.), Bri Dugal (Ayr, Ont.), Riley Brush (Wyoming, Ont.), and Avery Moninger (Wallaceburg, Ont.) as commits to the program for September.

“I’m looking forward to playing for the Lions,” said Hudson. “I’m also excited to have the opportunity to keep playing with some of my teammates from Wyoming at the college level.”

“I want to help the program be successful by doing whatever I can, both on and off the diamond.”

Hudson is the latest commitment to have come to Lambton College from both Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute (LCCVI) and the Wyoming Lady Wranglers softball program. The level of familiarity that Hudson will have with several of her teammates, as well as with Coach Shortt, will hopefully bode well for the group as they get acclimated to collegiate softball.

The inaugural roster for the Lions last season featured three student-athletes from LCCVI (Ashley Kelly, Brice Knight, and Karalee McCallum). Hudson is the fourth recruit this off-season from LCCVI to commit to Lambton College and the Women’s Softball Program, and that doesn’t factor in other commitments from other programs.

Having coached his latest recruit with the Lady Wranglers for years, Shortt knows just the type of player he’s getting in Hudson, who primarily plays second base. The addition of Hudson helps to solidify the infield rotation for the Lions heading into the season, providing more stability up the middle on defense as well as at the plate.

The Hudson name is a familiar one to fans of the Lions. Cole Hudson, Paige’s older brother, was part of the Lambton Men’s Baseball Program for the last two seasons. He was primarily a second baseman himself, while also spending time at shortstop and on the mound.

Now, it’s Paige’s turn to shine at second base for the Lions on the diamond.

While at Lambton College, Hudson will be enrolled in the Social Service Worker program.

The 2022 season was the first in the OCAA for the Lions, and while they narrowly missed out on the post-season on the final weekend of the regular season, it’s created some excitement for the future. With year one now under their belts, the Lions have their sights set on a spot in the playoffs in 2023 and the addition of Hudson will go a long way in helping the group achieve their goals.

Welcome to The Den, Paige!
