Lions Add First Baseman Aubrey Moffatt to 2023 Recruiting Class

SARNIA – Wrangled another one from Wyoming.

First baseman Aubrey Moffatt is the latest player to officially announce her commitment to Head Coach Greg Shortt and the Lambton Women’s Softball Program for the 2023 season, and beyond.

Moffatt is the eighth member of the 2023 recruiting class for Shortt and his coaching staff. Moffatt will join Kylee Shortt (Wyoming, Ont.), Ava Thompson (Wyoming, Ont.), Bri Dugal (Ayr, Ont.), Riley Brush (Wyoming, Ont.), Avery Moninger (Wallaceburg, Ont.), Paige Hudson (Wyoming, Ont.), and Laila Pachucki (London, Ont.) as newcomers with the Lions when September rolls around.

The commitment of Moffatt is the latest recruit to come to Lambton College from the Wyoming Lady Wranglers softball program, adding another level of familiarity to the program moving forward. Moffatt has played for Coach Shortt for eight years with the Lady Wranglers, and the coach is quite familiar with what his latest recruit brings to the diamond each time out.

“I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to continue coaching Aubrey,” said Shortt. “She is fun to coach, a good hitter, and a great teammate.”

“She works hard and enjoys being at the ballpark with her team.”

Moffatt has played with several members of the Lions at various levels as she has progressed through the Lady Wranglers system. Shortt and his staff are hoping that the sense of familiarity between the players will help ease their respective transitions to the collegiate game while solidifying the culture within the program.

A native of nearby Watford, Moffatt will come to Lambton College upon her graduation from Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute in Petrolia. At first base, Moffatt’s commitment helps to shore up a key position that saw a handful of players take their place on the diamond last season.

When she takes to the diamond for the first time in a Lions uniform later this year, Moffatt will bring with her a strong defensive presence, a disciplined bat at the plate, and a tenacious work ethic to do whatever she can to help the team succeed.

Academically, Moffatt will be enrolled in the Sports & Recreation Management Program.

The Lions are coming off a 2022 season that saw the group compete with the OCAA’s top programs from the outset of their first season. And, while they narrowly missed out on a spot in the playoffs on the final weekend, their inaugural season has created excitement for what’s to come in 2023, and beyond.

The addition of Moffatt adds more local talent to the group while continuing to create positive buzz around the program heading into year two.

Welcome to The Den, Aubrey!
