Vrbos-Clarkson, Colameco Pick Up Lambton Student-Athlete of the Week Honours

SARNIA – Left their mark on the week that was.

Third year infielder Gavyn Vrbos-Clarkson (Men’s Baseball) and first-year midfielder Morgan Colameco (Women’s Soccer) have been named the Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of September 25th to October 1st for their efforts on the diamond and on the pitch.

Vrbos-Clarkson, a third-year infielder from Jarvis, did a little bit of everything at the plate for the Lions on Saturday in their doubleheader sweep against the George Brown Huskies in Toronto. He went 3-for-6 at the plate over the two games, scoring two runs and driving in three while finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

The second game is where Vrbos-Clarkson did the bulk of his damage. In a 5-1 win for the Lions, he went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in three runs while scoring two runs himself.

In the top of the fifth inning is when Vrbos-Clarkson put an exclamation point on his impressive showing at the plate. He connected on a 2-1 pitch and sent a no-doubt shot over the right field fence for his first home run of the season, and second of his OCAA career.

For the season, Vrbos-Clarkson is now slashing .375 / .524 / .688 with four runs batted in to go along with a pair of doubles and one home run through seven games.

Colameco, a first-year midfielder from Sarnia, is one of 14 newcomers on the Lambton Women’s Soccer Roster for the 2023 season. While the offense has struggled to get going at times this season, Colameco was rewarded for the team’s persistence on Sunday afternoon.

In the second half against the Niagara Knights, Colameco was the beneficiary of a chaotic sequence in the box. The ball found its way into the box on a free kick from Alexis Wylie, one that the Niagara keeper couldn’t control. The rebound fell into a crowd, and eventually found its way free for Colameco.

Colameco then fired it into the back of the net for her first-career goal in the OCAA.

This season, Colameco has been a regular fixture in the Lambton lineup, having started all eight games so far in her rookie season.

Congratulations to both Gavyn and Morgan on being named this week’s Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week!

This year’s Athlete of the Week awards are presented by the Lambton College Student Administrative Council.
