JK Thomas, Maddy Bishop Take Home Lambton Athlete of the Week Honours After Big Home Weekends

SARNIA – Two guards that can do it all.

Guards JK Thomas (Men’s Basketball) and Maddy Bishop (Women’s Basketball) have been named the Lambton College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of November 13 – 19 for their efforts on the court over the weekend.

It marks the second time this season that both Thomas and Bishop have been named Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week, and the second time that they have received the award in the same week. Both were named Athletes of the Week back on October 23rd following the first week of the regular season.

Thomas continued his strong offensive play over the weekend, as the OCAA’s leading scorer put together two more games with at least 20 points while the Lions split the weekend against Sheridan and Humber. The third-year guard from Marion, Indiana averaged 26.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 39.5% from the field and 95.0% from the free throw line.

On Friday night, Thomas recorded 23 points on 50.0% shooting in the 104-84 win for the Lions over the visiting Bruins. He was one of five Lambton players to record double-digit points in the win. He added seven assists in the win. He followed that up with a 29-point, six-rebound outing on Saturday in a 95-76 loss to Humber.

For the season, Thomas is averaging a league-best 27.4 points per game while shooting 42.3% from the field and 85.5% from the free throw line. His 5.9 assists per game rank him second in the league.

Bishop and the Lions were looking to bounce back after a loss to St. Clair in their previous outing, and they did so in a big way over the weekend. The third-year guard from Windsor did a bit of everything on both ends of the floor for the Lions in their two victories, averaging 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

Against the Bruins on Friday night, Bishop kicked off her stellar individual weekend with a 22-point outing in a 90-36 victory. Bishop shot 53.3% from the field (8-for-15) and 6-for-13 (36.2%) from three-point range in just 22 minutes of action. She added in six rebounds, four assists, and four steals to complete the all-round standout performance.

To follow that up, Bishop went for 20 points, five rebounds, three assists, and one block in a convincing 80-41 win over the 12th-ranked Humber Hawks on Saturday afternoon, helping the Lions complete the weekend sweep in the process. She was efficient from the field once more, shooting 50.0% from the field (7-for-14) and an identical 6-for-13 (46.2%) from three-point range.

For the year, Bishop is averaging a team-high 14.7 points per game, a number that ranks her inside the top 10 in the OCAA. She’s also averaging 5.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 35.8% from the field.

Congratulations to both JK and Maddy on being named this week’s Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week!
