Double-Double Performances Land Nedyalkov, Fischer Lambton Athlete of the Week Honours

SARNIA – A big weekend from a pair of forwards.

Forwards Georgi Nedyalkov (Men’s Basketball) and Brett Fischer (Women’s Basketball) have been named the Lambton College Student-Athletes of the Week for November 6 – 12 for their efforts at home on the hardwood over the weekend.

This week marks the second time that both Nedyalkov and Fischer have been named Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week. It’s the second consecutive week that Nedyalkov has been named the Male Student-Athlete of the Week, while Fischer was named the Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 23 – 29.

On Saturday afternoon, Nedyalkov found himself in the starting lineup for the first time this season when the Lions took on the St. Clair Saints. Despite the Lions coming up short as a team in the end, Nedyalkov made the most of his increased minutes. In 30 minutes of action, he recorded 15 points, on 46.7% shooting, and18 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double.

From the outset, Nedyalkov was a factor on both ends of the floor as the Lions kept pace with the high-powered Saints. In the first quarter alone, Nedyalkov had seven points and eight rebounds, four on each end of the floor.

For the season, Nedyalkov is now averaging 8.8 points per game while shooting 59.4% from the field. He’s also averaging 9.4 rebounds per game, a mark that has him fifth among all qualified players in the OCAA through his first five games.

Fischer has been a model of consistency in the box scores to begin her Lambton career, and Saturday’s performance was more of the same. While the Lions came up short in their comeback bid to knock off the St. Clair Saints, Fischer recorded her fourth consecutive double-double in the loss. The Wallaceburg native had 14 points and 15 rebounds in 33 minutes of action.

In the first quarter, Fischer had four points, all of which came from the free throw line, and five rebounds. In fact, Fischer didn’t attempt a single field goal in the first half, but still finished with seven points and eight rebounds for the home side against the Saints.

Saturday marked the fourth straight game for Fischer with a double-double, and the fifth consecutive game overall that she had recorded 10 or more rebounds. She currently ranks second in the OCAA with 11.2 rebounds per game and 18th with 12.8 points per game.

Congratulations to both Georgi and Brett on being named this week’s Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week!
