Brandon Bogart, Breanna Pretty Pick Up Lambton Athlete of the Week Honours

SARNIA – Kicked off February in a big way.

Guard Brandon Bogart (Men’s Basketball) and wing Breanna Pretty (Women’s Basketball) have been named the Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of January 29th to February 4th for their efforts on home court over the weekend.

It marks the first Athlete of the Week honour for Bogart, while it’s the third time that Pretty has taken home the award this season.

Bogart, a first-year guard from St. Thomas, has seen his confidence and level of play continue to rise as the 2023-24 season has progressed. This past weekend, Bogart averaged 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game off the bench as the Lions split their weekend doubleheader with the Niagara Knights and Canadore Panthers.

On Saturday afternoon, Bogart recorded 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a 77-68 loss to Niagara. He shot 44.4% from the field in 23 minutes off the bench. He scored six of his points in the first quarter, going 2-for-3 from the field and a perfect 1-for-1 from three-point range and the free throw line.

Then, on Sunday afternoon against the Panthers. Bogart set a new career-best mark on the offensive end as the Lions got back to their winning ways. Bogart finished with a career-high 14 points, on 5-of-13 shooting from the field, to go along with five rebounds and three assists. He was 2-for-5 from three-point range over his 25 minutes of court time in the win.

Over his past three games, Bogart is averaging 12.0 points per game on 44.8% shooting from the field, to go along with 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals.

Pretty, a fourth-year wing from Sarnia, has been as consistent as they come for the Lions throughout her collegiate career. This past weekend was no different, as Pretty recorded 18 points and nine rebounds to help the Lions keep their winning ways going with a 65-40 win over the Niagara Knights on Saturday afternoon.

Out of the gates, Pretty was a problem that the Knights couldn’t find an answer for. In the first quarter alone, Pretty recorded eight points and five rebounds as the Lions took a 25-11 lead over their counterparts after 10 minutes of play. While the Knights made things interesting in the second frame, Pretty and company would regain their stride in the second half, limiting the Knights to just 11 points in the second half.

Pretty finished Saturday’s game shooting 7-of-14 (50.0%) from the field, marking the third consecutive game that she’s shot 50% or better from the field.

For the season, Pretty is averaging 14.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 46.1% from the field and 75.0% from the free throw line.

Congratulations to Brandon and Breanna on being named this week’s Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week!
