Ngakira, Britton Take Home Lambton Athlete of the Week Honours for February 12 – 18, 2024

SARNIA – Brought their best to the post-season.

Guard Byanungo Ngakira (Men’s Basketball) and forward Jordyn Britton (Women’s Basketball) have been named the Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of February 12 – 18, 2024 for their efforts on the hardwood to open the post-season.

It marks the first time that both Ngakira and Britton have been named Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week during the 2023-24 season.

Ngakira, a fourth-year guard from London, did whatever he could to keep his collegiate career going on Saturday afternoon as the Lions took on the George Brown Huskies in their OCAA Crossover Game. Despite putting together his third-straight game with 10+ points, Ngakira and the Lions came up short on the road, dropping a 91-77 decision to the Huskies.

In 27 minutes of playing time, Ngakira scored 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds while shooting 37.5% from the field. In the first quarter, Ngakira had an impact on both ends of the floor, recording three points while grabbing four rebounds to help keep the Lions within one point of the Huskies. Then, in the third quarter, Ngakira scored seven of his 18 points as the Lions tried to stay within striking distance of George Brown.

Over his last six games, including the regular season and playoffs, Ngakira averaged 13.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. For the season, he averaged 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 41.4% from the field.

Britton, a second-year forward from Thorold, made the most of her first-career start on Saturday afternoon. As one of the five graduating members of the Women’s Basketball Program this season, Britton factored into the starting lineup for the first time and had an impact on both ends of the floor as the Lions advanced to the OCAA Quarterfinals with a 70-25 win over Centennial.

Playing a season-high 18 minutes against the Colts, Britton recorded eight points on 40.0% shooting (4-of-10) from the field, to go along with four rebounds and a team-high five steals for an all-round strong performance. Britton started the game strong on both ends of the floor in the first quarter, helping the Lions race out to an early 12-point lead.

In the fourth quarter, Britton scored three of her eight points and grabbed three of her four rebounds to help the Lions seal the deal.

Congratulations to Byanungu and Jordyn on being named this week’s Lambton Student-Athletes of the Week!
