Lions Drop Intense Games in Men's Soccer

@ Fanshawe Falcons

Thursday evening was a battle for the ages, as Lambton traveled down the 402 to take on the Falcons. Both teams came out firing with multiple shots on goal early in the game. The shot barrage gave Fanshawe the early lead, as in the 5th minute the Falcons' Elivir Gigolaj found the net. Lambton came right back to tie the game two minutes later however, as Tristan Paul-Aguilar was awared a free kick and he didn't miss his chance. Shortly after that the Lions again found the back of net, only to have the goal taken away due to a late offside call. The 1st half physical play continued, as in the 24th minute a Fanshawe player was taken down in Lambton's box. The Falcon's didn't miss their penalty kick, giving them the 2-1 lead and keeping their for the remainder of the half.

The second half turned out to be a ferocious one, as both teams came out with some added intensity. Yellow cards were handed out to both teams early in the half for some physical play, which continued for the remainder of the contest. Frustration took over later in the frame, as Garth Denys picked up a red card dropping the Lions to 10 men on the field. The score would hold at 2-1 until the final whistle, handing the Lions their 2nd loss of this young season.

VS Mohawk Mountaineers

Lambton was back on home turf to face the Mountaineers as they looked to hand Mohawk their 2nd consecutive loss of the weekend. The Mountaineers had other plans for this contest, knocking off the Lions 4-0. Again the game started with a flurry of chances for both teams. The goalkeepers were spectacular, swatting away chances left and right keeping the game at nil-nil. It wasn't until the 41st minute that Mohawk was able to slice a ball past Lambton keeper Zack Moniz, giving them the 1-0 going into the break.

Mohawk looked to strike quick to start the 2nd half. They pressured the Lions defense and sent a cross across the pitch. It seemed like it was mis-hit but managed to elude Moniz, pushing the Mohawk lead to 2. With 3 of Lambton's starters missing due to injury and suspension, the Mountaineers were able to overwhelm the Lions late, notching insurance goals in the 68th and 73rd minutes.

The Lions will face Mohawk on the road this Wednesday as they will look to even the season series. This game is the makeup game for the Lions first game of the year that was cancelled due to lightning.
