Men's Soccer Splits Opening Week Contests

@ Mohawk

The Men attempted to get their game underway, but after 7 minutes of play the game was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions.

@ St. Clair

The Lions kicked their OCAA schedule off with a tough 2-1 loss to St. Clair. Lambton started the game very well with some continued pressure which then resulted in them going up 1-0 at the 15-minute mark on an own goal. The St. Clair keeper was attempting to kick the ball down field but it hit the back leg of one of the Saint defenders and deflected into the back of the net.

St. Clair drew even at the 25-minute mark by Yale Chadsey. With the Saints pressuring, Zach Moniz was solid in net and the two teams would end the half at 1 - 1. The Saints would eventually take the lead on a penalty kick goal by Leighton Speechley-Price in the 65th minute. The teams traded chances back and forth in the second half but unfortunately the Lions were unable to bring the game back to a 2 - 2 draw.

VS Redeemer

Lambton took care of business in their home opener, washing away the rain and the Royals by a score of 3-0. Lambton started the game with some tremendous pressure that saw them score within the first 8 minutes, but the goal was called back due to an offside call.  With continued pressure Lambton was able to capitalize two more times within the 20-minute mark. Lambton's first goal was created by captain Andre Fluegel, who beat his man wide while cutting the ball back from the goalkeeper, setting up Elliot Pecora around the penalty spot who made no mistake in finishing at the 16-minute mark. The second tally came off the foot of Richael O'Neill. O'Neill intercepted a back pass to the keeper and chipped it around him into the back of the net at the 20-minute mark. The half would end with Lambton up 2 - 0, outpacing the Royals in both shot attempts and shots on goal.

During the second half the Royals looked to pressure the Lions, but goalkeeper Zach Moniz and the Lions back four, lead by Alasdair Coy and Garth Denys, were solid in eventually keeping the slat clean for Moniz's first shutout of the year. In the 85th minute Emuobo Okparamidevi provided the crowd with an amazing individual effort starting at about the half line. He broke away from the Redeemer defense for a break away, and proceeded to beat the keeper and score, putting the game away for good.

Lambton will take their 1-1 record down the 402 to play the Fanshawe Falcons on Thursday night as they look to go over the .500 mark for the season.
