Lions Add Kennedy C.I. Star to 2020-21 Roster

SARNIA – The Lions are continuing to build ahead of the 2020-21 season.

On the heels of a successful 2019-20 season, one that saw the Lions post an 11-7 record in the regular season, the Lambton Women’s Basketball team is looking for more in 2020-21. The Lions finished in fourth-place in the competitive OCAA West Division, advancing to the 2020 OCAA Women’s Basketball Championship before falling in their quarterfinal match-up.

The Lions added another piece to the puzzle on Tuesday afternoon with the commitment of shooting guard Maddy Bishop (Windsor, Ont.) to the roster for the 2020-21 campaign.

Bishop joins Kala Wagg (Sarnia, Ont.) and Mackenzie Umbelina (London, Ont.) in the 2020-21 recruiting class for Head Coach Kendel Ross and the Lambton Lions thus far in the off-season.

Success on the hardwood is nothing new for Bishop. The Kennedy Collegiate Institute Clippers star put together quite a resume at the high school level. Bishop helped lead the Clippers to an OFSAA Silver Medal in 2019, which was the program’s first-ever medal at OFSAA. She was also named the first League MVP In school history.

Bishop’s high school resume includes two Windsor & Essex County Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WECSSAA) Championships, a Southwestern Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (SWOSSAA) Championship, and an OFSAA Silver Medal. She is also a three-time All-City honouree, a League MVP, and helped lead the Clippers to their first Championship game in 26 years.

No stranger to success on the hardwood, Bishop will look to continue her stellar basketball career at Lambton College and help the Lions build off their OCAA Championship appearance in 2019-20. Under Ross, the Lions have improved in each of the last three seasons, and will look to continue their upward trajectory in years to come with Bishop in the fold.

Bishop joins a returning group that is headlined by Breanna Pretty (Sarnia, Ont.), the reigning OCAA West Division Rookie of the Year, and Cassidy Crowe (Sarnia, Ont.), who was named an OCAA West Division Second Team All-Star. The Lions are putting together a talented group that will look to contend atop the West Division this season.
