RECAP: Lions Roll to 67-40 Exhibition Win Over Alumni

Basketball is officially back at Lambton College!

Wednesday night marked the Ninth Annual Blue & White Games for the Lions on the hardwood, giving fans an early look at the 2019-20 rosters ahead of the regular season.

The newest edition of the Women’s Basketball team took on a roster that featured various Alumni from the program in recent years. This year’s roster used a strong first half to take all of the momentum, and they rolled to a 67-40 win to get their season started on the right foot.

After putting in work throughout the summer and into the new school year, Wednesday night marked the first game action for the team. The night also marked the first time that the Lions’ new players put on a Lambton College jersey in game action.

In the first quarter, a pair of veterans for the Lions took on a starring role. Third year guard Ashleigh Pettit scored eight of her nine points on the night in the opening quarter. Morgan Wagg added six points, kick-starting a big night on offense for the third-year guard.

Wagg finished the night with a game-high 25 points.

The Lions held the Alumni Team to just six points in both the first and second quarters, and they took a 36-12 lead into halftime. Lambton would roll from there in the second half to the 27-point win, 67-40.

Several newcomers put together strong performances in their first game action as a member of the Lions. Both Breanna Pretty and Cassidy Crowe finished the night with six point apiece, while fellow guard Taya Spears had five in the win.

Melissa Ellis led the Alumni Team with nine points, while Paige Johnston finished the night with six points.

From here, the Lions will begin exhibition play ahead of the 2019-20 regular season. Lambton College will head on the road for a weekend tournament hosted by the Loyalist Lancers from September 28-29, 2019. The Lions will take on the John Abbott Islanders from the RSEQ on September 28th, and they will close out the event against the host Loyalist Lancers on September 29th.

The Lions open the 2019-20 regular season on Friday, October 18th against the visiting Niagara College Knights. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside the Lambton College Athletics & Fitness Complex.
