PREVIEW: Lions Visit UTM to Close Weekend Road Trip

On Sunday afternoon, the Lambton Lions men’s soccer team will conclude its mini two-game road trip when they take on the UTM Eagles in OCAA action.

The Lions enter the game with a record of 0-2-0 record following a loss on Saturday and will be looking to find their rhythm on offense while keeping the offense for the Eagles under wraps in the process.

Saturday saw Lambton face the Sheridan Bruins in their first road game of the season. After their second half comeback fell just short against the Conestoga Condors in their home opener the weekend prior, the Lions were looking to carry the momentum they developed in the second half into Saturday’s tilt with the Bruins.

Against the Bruins, the game started almost the same as it did against the Condors. Sheridan scored in the opening minutes to give themselves a 1-0 lead, and they stretched their lead to 2-0 before the half was out. Down at halftime again, the Lions needed a strong push over the final 45 minutes to complete the comeback.

Only this time, the Lions didn’t have any second half magic. Sheridan added two more goals in the second half, cruising to the 4-0 win for their first victory of the season. The Lions were unable to find any sort of rhythm on offense due to the consistent defensive pressure from the Bruins.

Sunday provides the Lions with another opportunity to crack into the win column. With the recent OCAA divisional realignments, their game against the Eagles marks the first time the two programs have met on the soccer field.

UTM enters Sunday’s match-up with a record of 1-1-0. The Eagles opened their season with a 2-0 win over Mohawk but are coming off a 3-1 loss to the St. Clair Saints on Saturday afternoon.

Kickoff is set for approximately 3 p.m. at the South Field on the Eagles’ campus.
