RECAP: Offense Stalls in Shutout Loss to Humber

Sunday afternoon saw the Lambton Lions take on the Humber Hawks in four match-ups throughout the day, two each on the soccer field and the baseball diamond.

At the Lambton College Soccer Field, the Lions took on the Hawks, a team that came into the day as the top-ranked Men’s Soccer team in the CCAA. Humber used their high-octane offense to net a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes to set the tone for the afternoon.

The Hawks rolled to the 10-0 win over the Lions on their home field.

With the loss, the Lions dropped to 0-5-0 on the year, while the Hawks improved to a perfect 5-0-0.

Lambton was under pressure from the Hawks from the start of the game. The Hawks delivered the first blow just six minutes into the game when Leaford Allen found the back of the net. Humber would add three more goals before the 20th minute to take an early 4-0 lead.

The Lions managed to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard for the rest of the first half, but the second half was more of the same in the end. The visitors added six more goals to extend their lead to double-digits, ultimately winning by a final score of 10-0.

After a competitive first half against Niagara on Saturday afternoon, the offense for the Lions went dry over the next 135 minutes of action. With just one goal to their name in last four contests, Lambton will be looking for an offensive spark as the second half of their 2019 schedule gets underway.

Lambton will close out their three-game home stand on Saturday, September 28th when the Mohawk Mountaineers come to town.

Kickoff on Saturday is set for approximately 3 p.m., as the game will begin shortly after the completion of the Women’s Game at 1 p.m.
