PREVIEW: Lions Look to Continue Building Positive Momentum at Fanshawe

In a rare mid-week contest for the Men’s Soccer team, the Lambton Lions will take a quick trip down Highway 402 for a Tuesday afternoon match-up with the host Fanshawe Falcons.

Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Fanshawe College Soccer Field.

The Lions are coming off a 2-2 draw in their last outing against the Mohawk Mountaineers. Mitch McAuley (Petrolia, ON; 1st Year) was responsible for both Lambton goals, the second of which came in the 89th minute on a volley from the top of the box.

McAuley has scored each of the last three goals for the Lions, accounting for 60% of the team’s total offense thus far in 2019.

Entering Tuesday afternoon’s tilt with the Falcons, the Lions boast a record of 0-5-1. Still, the Lions have an outside chance of making the playoffs with three games left to play in the regular season. With their next two games away from home, the Lions will be looking to carry the momentum they built late in their contest against the Mountaineers into their game against the Falcons.

Fanshawe comes into Tuesday afternoon with a record of 4-1-0 through their first five games, and the Falcons are part of a four-way tie for second place in the West Division with 12 points.

The Lions haven’t had the best of luck against the Falcons in recent years. Lambton has been held without a goal in their last two meetings against Fanshawe. Last season, the Lions were shut out in their season opener by the Falcons, 3-0.

Heading into Tuesday afternoon, the Lions will look to continue their momentum and find an offensive spark against a talented Fanshawe team that has had Lambton’s number over the years.

With a spot in the playoffs still in sight, the Lions will aim to gain some ground on the rest of the West Division with a strong showing on the road.
