Toronto Point Guard Cory King Commits to Lambton Men’s Basketball Program

SARNIA – Crowned a new recruit on the hardwood.

Point guard Cory King has officially committed to Head Coach James Grant and the Lambton Men’s Basketball Program for the 2024-25 season, and beyond.

King is the third member of the 2024 recruiting class for Grant and his coaching staff. King will join Loghan LeBlanc (New Waterford, N.S.) and Owen Newell (Brussels, Ont.) as a newcomer with the Lions when the 2024-25 season opens in September.

“We’re excited to add a player of Cory’s caliber to the program,” said Grant. “Cory is a very strong guard that brings a tough defensive work ethic to the court.”

“He has incredible maturity which is going to be a great asset to the team.”

King, a five-foot-nine point guard, is the latest player to come to Lambton College from the Greater Toronto Area. The Toronto native plays his prep basketball at Terror Prep, and he will look to continue having success on the court at the OCAA level in a Lambton uniform.

Coming to Lambton College is something that’s been on King’s radar for some time. He’s developed a sense of comfort with Coach Grant and the Lambton Basketball program throughout his recruiting process, which made his commitment decision an easy one when the time came.

“I’m really excited to finally commit to Lambton College,” said King. “I’ve been working out with Coach Grant for some time and have been getting to know the players, and I’m just really excited to showcase what I have.”

“I can score at all three levels, and I can pick up 94-feet too, so you’re going to see a lot of defensive plays from me.”

In recent months, King has taken part in various showcases at Lambton College, and his talent and energy on both ends of the court stood out to Coach Grant and some of the returning players on the roster. Now, they will add another talented two-way point guard to the mix, one that infuses more depth to the back court rotation in the process.

Academically, King will be enrolled in the Sports & Recreation Management Program at Lambton College.

The Lions are coming off a 2023-24 season that saw the group finish 9-9 during the regular season, good for seventh in the always-competitive OCAA West Division. They were unable to replicate their post-season magic from the 2022-23 season, one in which they finished seventh in the regular season but made a run to the OCAA Final Four. This year, the Lions dropped their OCAA Crossover Game on the road at George Brown, bringing a premature end to their season.

Now, Coach Grant and his staff have turned their focus to building the roster for the 2024-25 season, and the addition of King checks multiple boxes as they prepare for the future.

Welcome to The Den, Cory!
