SARNIA – Can’t guard these guards.

JK Thomas (Men’s Basketball) and Maddy Bishop (Women’s Basketball) have been named the Lambton College Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of October 16 – 22, 2023 for their efforts on the hardwood to open the 2023-24 regular season.

Thomas wasted little time before making an impact with the Men’s Basketball Program. In two games this past weekend, his first regular season contests in the OCAA, the third-year guard from Marion, Indiana averaged a league-best 33.0 points per game to go along with 2.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists.

In his regular season debut on Friday night against the visiting Conestoga Condors, Thomas made sure his first impression on the league would be remembered. He opened his OCAA career with a 41-point outing in the 104-68 win for the Lions. Thomas shot 59.1% (13-for-22) from the field and 45.5% (5-for-11) from three-point range in the win while also dishing out eight assists.

Then, on Saturday afternoon, Thomas followed up his Friday performance with a 25-point, five-assist outing in a 101-78 win over the Redeemer Royals.

It didn’t take long before Bishop was up to her old tricks for the Lions. The third-year guard from Windsor averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game over two wins over the Condors and Royals to open the 2023-24 regular season.

In the season opener on Friday night against Conestoga, Bishop recorded eight points, four rebounds, and seven assists in just 24 minutes as the Lions rolled to the 89-30 victory. Defensively, Bishop helped the Lions force the Condors into committing 38 turnovers on the night.

On Saturday against the Royals, Bishop had herself a career day on offense. She recorded a career-high 24 points on the afternoon, shooting 45.0% (9-for-20) from the field and 40.0% (6-for-15) from three-point range to help lead the Lions to a 19-point win over Redeemer, 74-55. Bishop added seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in the win to close out a strong first weekend of the season.
