The Lambton Lions women’s basketball team continued their strong start to the 2019-20 season with a pair of impressive showings against the Sault College Cougars inside the Lambton College Athletics & Fitness Complex.
Over the weekend of October 27-28, the Lions picked up two wins over the Cougars to push their record to 4-0 to start the season.
On Saturday, the Lions notched an 83-44 win to kick off the weekend, and they followed that up with a convincing 104-50 win on Sunday afternoon.
With the wins, Lambton improved to a league-best 4-0 on the year, while the Cougars dropped to 0-2.
It was a balanced weekend for the Lions on both ends of the floor. Lambton got contributions from everyone on their roster, a situation that bodes well for the team as the season continues to unfold.
In Saturday’s win, first-year guard Breanna Pretty (Sarnia, Ont.) continued her strong play to start her collegiate career. In just her third regular season game, Pretty narrowly missed a quadruple-double in the win. She posted 21 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and 12 steals to lead the way for the Lions.
A total of five players reached double figures for the Lions in the win, including Alicia Maure (Sarnia, Ont.), who chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Sunday was more of the same for the Lions. The home side was in control from the opening tip through to the final buzzer, cruising to the 54-point win over the Cougars, 104-50.
Building on Saturday’s complete team performance, the Lions saw six players reach double-digits in the win. All nine players who saw the floor on Sunday recorded at least four points. Cassidy Crowe (Sarnia, Ont.) led all scorers on the afternoon with 23 points, on 10-of-17 shooting, in just 21 minutes.
Ashleigh Pettit (Brights Grove, Ont.) had an effective day on both ends of the floor. Pettit finished with 10 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocked shots.
With the weekend sweep, the Lions find themselves atop the OCAA West Division standings with a perfect 4-0 record. On offense, Lambton is averaging 86.8 points per game. On the defensive end, the Lions are limiting their opponents to an average of just 48.8 points per contest.
Lambton will look to continue their strong start to the season on November 1st when they head on the road for the first time in the regular season. The Lions will take on the Redeemer Royals in Ancaster, Ontario, with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
