Basketball Programs Add New Coaching Element Ahead of 2019-20 Season

The 2019-20 basketball season may be just around the corner, but the Lions are still making improvements to both teams ahead of the new campaign. With that comes another exciting commitment, this time to the coaching staff for both the men’s and women’s programs.

You’ve likely seen the newest member of our staff as you pass through the Athletics & Fitness Complex. Always found in the gym, players have grown quite fond of the newest addition in just a short period of time.

The Lions are thrilled to add, from Shoot-A-Way, ‘The Gun’ 10K to the mix for the 2019-20 season, and beyond.

“This new machine will be a key tool in allowing our teams to reach our shooting targets this year,” said Men’s Basketball Head Coach James Grant. “The ability for our players to get up a lot of shots while seeing their progress in real-time is a key feature of the system for us.”

The shooting machine was purchased by the Lambton College Student Administrative Council (SAC) from revenues that were generated through Basketball camps. The Lions’ Elite Sport Camps were created by Dave Walls and James Grant, with assistance from Athletics Coordinator John Faragher.

Back in 2014, the camps were put into operation. Along with Coach Grant, men's assistant coach Keith Concisom and Women's Basketball Head Coach Kendel Ross were instrumental in supplying top-level instruction to the participants with help from members of the varsity men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Easy to set up, ‘The Gun’ 10K gives players an opportunity to work on different aspects of their game at their convenience. From launch angle to ball positioning, and from live progress updates to adjusting time intervals between passes, 'The Gun' provides players and coaches alike with a ton of flexibility and information on the spot.

Whenever you walk by the Athletics & Fitness Complex at Lambton College, chances are you’ll see ‘The Gun’ putting in work with members of the Lions’ varsity basketball programs ahead of the 2019-20 season.

The Lions begin their 2019-20 season with their annual Blue & White Game on September 18th. The women’s basketball team takes to the court at 6 p.m., with the men’s program to follow at 8 p.m.
