RECAP: Lions Pick up Three Wins at David Stewart Tip-Off

For the second weekend in a row, the Lambton Lions men’s basketball team put together a perfect 3-0 record in exhibition play.

On the heels of winning the SLC Invitational Championship last weekend, the Lions put together a 3-0 weekend at the David Stewart Tip-Off at Durham College.

Lambton boasts a 6-0 record in exhibition play ahead of the 2019-20 season. The Lions now get set to host St. Clair County Community College inside the Lambton College Athletics & Fitness Complex on Wednesday, October 9th.

The game against St. Clair will be live streamed for those who can’t make it in-person.

On Friday in their opener, the Lions picked up a six-point win over the St. Lawrence Vikings, 78-72. Forwards Deiondre Reid and Jason Watts recorded 15 points apiece in the win for the Lions. Kardon Edwards added 12 points, while Tyrel Miller chipped in with 10 points of his own.

It was a quick turnaround for the Lions from game one to game two. After playing in the night cap on Friday night, the Lions needed to recover quick as they took on the host Durham Lords to open the day on Saturday.

The 9 a.m. start time didn’t hinder the Lions by any means. Lambton used a balanced scoring attack to outwork the Lords and come away with an 87-79 victory. Lambton’s offense saw five players reach double-figures on the day, led by 21 points from guard Tyvell Peters.

Reid continued his strong play at the event, finishing the game with 17 points. First year guard Kam David added 12 points of his own.

From there, the Lions closed out their weekend trip to Oshawa with an afternoon tilt with the Fleming Knights. Lambton came into the game looking to continue their strong play, and they used another balanced scoring effort to pick up their biggest win of the season.

Watts was at it again, posting yet another double-digit scoring effort in the Lions’ 94-60 win over the Knights. Watts led all scorers with 27 points in the win, marking his third game with at least 20 points in preseason play.

Transfer Maleek Ekumba chipped in with 17 points for his best offensive performance since joining the Lions this season. Forward Tyler Grevers added 10 points off the bench in the win.

Ahead of a 2019-20 season, one in which the Lions will host the 2020 OCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, Lambton has built up a ton of momentum ahead of their regular season opener. With two more exhibition games scheduled before their home opener on October 18th, the Lions will look to continue their strong play and rack up two more wins.
